Kennel Cough and your pets
For those who don’t want to leave their pets alone while on holiday, before you take your pet to the Kennel, a little research is necessary. To keep pets within the boarding healthy and safe, the Boarding facility needs to impose strict rules regarding the pets allowed into their premises. One of the most important rules is that your dog’s vaccines must be up to date.
Reputable Boarding Facilities will always ask for a Vet Vaccine Card.
These vaccinations are not only for your dog’s safety, but to ensure the welfare of the other dogs and pets. The Boarding Facilities reserves the right to refuse unvaccinated dogs or those that have been recently vaccinated. They usually require at least 14 days between vaccination and the day of boarding.
Kennel Cough, or infectious tracheobronchitis, is a
very contagious
respiratory disease. It's transmitted by close contact with an infected dog and can be associated with boarding kennels, therefore it's especially important to ensure your dog is covered if you're planning a trip away.
